At Cornerstone, we are proud to have an active Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Steering Group. This group brings together staff, residents, and a board member, meeting four time a year to review and advise on our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion processes and progress.
The purpose of the EDI Steering Group is to:
Offer advice, ideas, and feedback on the development and delivery
Provide a platform for listening to and gathering views on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion matters
Help us respond effectively to emerging issues and suggestions
Champion key issues, concerns, achievements, and best practices both internally and with stakeholders
Strengthen engagement with diverse groups across our communities
Highlights from the past year
The group approved Cornerstone’s commitment to the Disability Confident Scheme, marking our first step as a committed employer. This has prompted a review of our recruitment practices and related policies. In 2025/26, we aim to progress to Level 2 accreditation.
We welcomed a presentation from CEDA, an Exeter-based charity that empowers disabled people to feel connected, happy, and visible. The session included a Q&A and sparked valuable discussions on collaboration. As a result, staff will in the future be volunteering to help improve CEDA’s outdoor community space, and the charity has offered to support us in reviewing our new website.
The group has also reviewed policies and procedures on the following topics before they were approved:
Reasonable adjustments policy
Communications style guide
Communication accessibility
Unacceptable behaviour policy
Equality Impact Assessment workshops
Disability/Accessibility workshop
Over the coming year, the EDI Group will support our data collection project, helping to identify gaps and ensure we meet the equality, diversity, and inclusion needs of our residents.
We would welcome more residents to be involved. Please contact us if you are interested.
