How Do I Pay Rent?

How can I pay my rent?

Rent is charged monthly. Your rent is due on the 1st day of each month. You are advised of the rent due (and any service charge you may need to pay). Garages and Parking are also charged monthly. Cornerstone's preferred method of payment of rent is by direct debit; however, you can pay in any of the following ways:

By Direct Debit
You can do this at any post office if you have a Girobank account or through a bank or building society account. If you ask us, we can send you a form. Remember to write your rent reference number on any form you fill in. Direct debits come out of your account on the 4th of each month.

At a Post Office

You can pay rent at any Post Office in the country using an Allpay Swipecard sent to you on request. The Post Office will not charge for this service. Take your Allpay Swipecard together with your payment to the cashier. You must tell the cashier how much you wish to pay. If you are making a payment on more than one account you must make it clear to the cashier how much you wish to pay on each Swipecard. Cheques should be made payable to Post Office Ltd. You will be given a receipt that should be kept as proof of payment with your Allpay Swipecard in the wallet provided.

At any Paypoint

You can pay rent at any Paypoint facility in the country using an Allpay Swipecard sent to you on request. They will not charge for this service. Take your Swipecard together with your payment to the cashier. You must tell the cashier how much you wish to pay. If you are making a payment on more than one account you must make it clear to the cashier how much you wish to pay on each Swipecard. You will be given a receipt that should be kept as proof of payment with your Swipecard in the wallet provided.

By Intenet

Online Payment Service - simply go to www.allpayments.net and follow instructions.

By Debit Card
You are now able to pay their rent by a debit card over the telephone helping to reduce the risk of arrears.

The Telephone Payment System (TPS) is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and is accessible from any landline or mobile with a touch tone keypad. An Interactive Voice Response (IVR) will guide you through the process. The TPS is totally secure and an authorisation code is given which acts as a paper receipt.

The procedure for this service is as follows:

  • Call the number - 0844 557 8321 (You will need to have your Allpay payment card and Debit card details to hand.)
  • You will be asked to enter your 19-digit Allpay account number. ( swipecard)
  • You will be asked to enter your Debit card number.
  • You will be asked to enter the 4-digit expiry date number on your debit card.
  • You will be asked to enter the 4-digit start date number on your debit card.
  • (Switch customers will be asked to enter an issue number).
  • You will be asked to enter the amount you wish to pay, using the star (*) button to separate pounds from pence. For example to pay £153.56 you would enter 153*56
  • The amount will then be read back to you and you will be asked to confirm whether the amount entered is correct (*) or wrong (#)
  • If your transaction is successful you will be given an authorisation number (please retain this number as it acts as a paper receipt)

If your transaction fails during office hours you will be transferred to a Customer Service Adviser. All payments made in this way should show on your rent account by the afternoon of the following day. Please note that Credit Cards are not accepted.

Can I get financial help if I can't pay my rent?

Housing benefit is a Government Scheme that helps you pay your rent if you are on low income (whether you are working or getting benefits such as income support, unemployment benefit, or a pension). If you think you should get housing benefit, make a claim as soon as possible. How much you get depends on your income, how many people live in your home and how much rent you pay.

Housing benefit is usually paid every two weeks or every 4 weeks in arrears. The Council will write to tell you how much benefit you have been given and the day it starts. If you are not happy with the decision, you can ask the Council's housing benefit section to explain it in more detail. You must do this in writing within six weeks of the Council writing to you. If you are still not happy, you can write in again asking for the decision to be looked at by a Review Board. You can also go to a Citizens Advice Bureau at any time for advice. Your local Councillor may also be able to help you.

It is important to remember that even though you may be getting Housing Benefit it remains your responsibility to ensure the rent is paid.
