Emergencies

Emergency repairs outside office hours

Cornerstone provides an out of hours repairs call out service for emergencies only. This service can be reached by dialing 07899 916301.

Please do not report an emergency on-line as this will not be intercepted until the next working day.

If you need to use this service you will need to state your name, address, and the nature of the problem. Please do not abuse this system - use it wisely. You will be charged if the call is found to be of a non-urgent nature. In most cases we shall attempt to make the situation safe but will only repair minor emergency problems, so will not for example repair your central heating system. If a central heating system needs a replacement part we will not be able to obtain a replacement until the next available working day.

In many instances what may at first appear to be an emergency will actually be only an inconvenience that can be managed with a little thought. Please see the Helpful Hints page. You will find listed elsewhere just what is classed as an emergency. These are very clear and avoid misunderstandings between what is an emergency and what is ‘inconvenient’. This service is expensive and if misused the cost will be charged to you.

Emergencies include problems affecting your safety, security and health, and are defined as category 1. The following examples are not classed as emergencies, and you would be charged in these and similar cases:

  • Frozen pipes. As long as your heating system is left on this should never happen.
  • Lack of hot water. Inconvenient though this is, a kettle, electric or otherwise, can be employed to provide small supplies for a day or two.
  • If it is your own electrical appliance causing the fault (you should check the trip switch first). See also Helpful hints.
  • Central heating for tenants other than those specified in category 1 (you should always have an alternative form of heating to use in case of failure).
  • If you have lost your keys (you are advised to keep a spare set with a relative or neighbour).
  • A leak in your property. This can be temporarily controlled by turning off the water supply at the stopcock.

If you are reporting a repair following an act of vandalism you must inform the police first before you contact Cornerstone.  The police will issue you with a crime number that you should write down and keep safe.

IF YOU SMELL GAS FIRST RING TRANSCO on 0800 111 999

If you smell gas once you have telephoned TRANSCO remember to turn off the gas supply at the main stop cock (usually by the gas meter) open windows, do not switch on or off any electrical appliances and do not light a cigarette, strike a match or use a naked flame.
