Disabled Adaption
The legislative framework for determining responsibility for the provision of aids and adaptations in housing is complex. Although there is no statutory responsibility for Housing Associations to provide aids and adaptations for their residents Cornerstone can provide assistance in certain circumstances.
Our Policy:
You will need the following to be considered for assistance:
- An 'Assessment of Need' from the Occupational Therapist Department, Social Services, showing that the adaptations are necessary to enable the tenant to continue living independently within their home.
- Following receipt of the 'Assessment of Need', a joint visit will be arranged for the Occupational Therapist and a Cornerstone Housing Officer, to look at the viability, tenant's needs and the design of the property.
- The works must be appropriate to the dwelling and will not affect its future let-ability.
- An annual budget has been set for Aids and Adaptations. All minor adaptations under £500 are funded by Cornerstone.
- The Chief Executive also has the authority to agree major adaptations between £500 - £1,000 from the annual budget.
- All works over £1,000 are likely to require external funding. These works can be funded by the Disabled Facilities Grant or a grant from the Housing Corporation.
